UNICEPTA acquires Berlin-based AI startup Giance
UNICEPTA, the global innovation leader for media & marketing intelligence, is expanding its capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) to open up new business areas with corporate intelligence applications by acquiring the Berlin-based start-up GIANCE Technologies.
With its developed Natural Language Understanding method for extracting knowledge from texts, Giance recognizes and understands the relevant facts about specific events and forwards them as simple and comprehensive signals to the respective recipient groups. The new technology enables companies to identify and respond to operational risks and incidents, for example within supply chains, at a very early stage.
Jochen Freese, CEO of UNICEPTA Group, comments: “Freely accessible information in the media is a huge and strategically valuable treasure of data for companies. However, the ever-growing amount of data makes a systematic evaluation for actually relevant information almost impossible. With Giance’s AI technology, we are creating an additional offering of an automated and highly precise solution.”
Prof. Dr. Hans Uszkoreit, GIANCE founder and one of the global pioneers for artificial intelligence as well as co-founder and scientific director of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), adds: “Until now, it took human analysis to extract structured data from unstructured data – i.e. texts. With our method, the AI learns this skill from a few examples and improves it as it goes along.”
Within the UNICEPTA Group, Giance will form the technology center for research and development together with Ubermetrics Technologies. In this context, Prof. Dr. Hans Uszkoreit will support future developments in the field of artificial intelligence within the UNICEPTA Group as a member of the company’s advisory board.
Giance emerged in 2018 as a spin-off from a research project with DFKI to develop AI technologies for the use in supply chain management and corporate intelligence. These capabilities were further developed by Giance and brought to market-ready enterprise applications in partnership with Ubermetrics Technologies, which is also part of the UNICEPTA Group since early 2021.
